Have you ever asked yourself where are planes located once they are put aside? Every day, all over the world, thousands of civilian and military planes cover millions of kilometers to carry hundreds of millions of people from one side of the planet to the other. Safety reaches the maximum level: the number of plane accidents compared to the one of car accidents is really scarce. Each country has its top company and a military air force as well. Routine verifications are performed to guarantee the passengers and the staffs the maximum level of safety.

However, nothing lives forever and planes have their own cycle of life: after some years, they fall into disuse. Where do they end up once they stop working? There are some real “plane graveyards“, locations in which the models that are too old and used to keep flying are transported. Once they reach these locations, it is time to decide what to do with them: the older and more broken ones are demolished and the materials are recycled: tons of precious metals can be sold in the sector of industrial reuse.

As far as military planes are concerned that are too old to be used for missions, but they are still working after an extraordinary maintenance to rebuild the worn out parts, there is a real international market.

Often times, the planes that are not used anymore by military forces are bought by the governments of the “Third World”: for example, in Africa, an old plane of a Western army is a good device. Most of the gathering locations of these planes are situated in the United States, in the desert South-Western territories between Mexico, California and Arizona.
